NITDA unveils Nigeria’s AI readiness, digital infrastructure strategy at UNGA80 in US

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has said Nigeria’s digital infrastructure sector is ripe with investment opportunities in the ecosystem.

ConsumerConnect reports Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA, who stated this while featuring on the global stage at hashtag#UNGA80, powered by NITDA and hosted by HERitage House, led a pivotal discussion on “Tech is Infrastructure”, in New York, United States (US).

NITDA disclosed the Information Technology sector regulatory agency emphasised the    focus of the global outing was clear: to establish inclusive digital infrastructure through strategic government policy as the bedrock of Nigeria’s digital economy.

The agency noted the Director-General also highlighted Nigeria’s bold vision for AI Readiness, built on critical pillars, including trusted, culturally-reflective data; robust compute/storage capacity; and bias-free algorithms.

In order to bridge the digital divide, Inuwa particularly identified Project BRIDGE as the country’s landmark initiative, deploying 90,000 km of fibre-optic cable to guarantee nationwide Broadband connectivity or Internet access.

Demonstrating Nigeria’s innovative approach to modern digital infrastructure, he explained the co-creation in policymaking, guided by the Regulatory Intelligence Framework.

Inuwa equally announced other major milestones like the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative (NSCI), designed to safeguard digital independence and the launch of N-ATLAS, which as described as the country’s first multilingual AI model.

Urging collaboration with global partners, investors and stakeholders, Inuwa asserted that “Nigeria’s digital infrastructure sector is ripe with investment opportunities.”

He beckoned them to join the West African country in building “a resilient and sovereign digital future”.

Insight into ‘Renewed Hope Blueprint for Sustainable Growth’

In a related development, Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, on the sidelines of the recent 80th UNGA, also participated in a special side event with the theme: “Global Partnerships, Local Prosperity: Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Blueprint for Sustainable Growth”.

NITDA stated the event focused on taking stock of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria’s strides towards achieving a $1 trillion economy.

According to him, the country is deploying the Renewed Hope Blueprint for Sustainable Growth as a platform to encourage Nigerians in the Diaspora to invest in, and contribute to the President Tinubu’s vision for national development.

In his remarks, Inuwa highlighted the agency’s contributions to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, especially through digital literacy and skills development initiatives, including the Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) and 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programmes.

The NITDA Chief Executive, therefore, underscored the agency’s role in expanding access to digital infrastructure, to support inclusive learning and empower citizens to thrive in the emerging Nigeria Digital Economy.
