CBN launches lecture series to strengthen transmission of monetary policy initiatives

As part of its strategy to deepen public understanding and strengthen the transmission of monetary policy initiatives, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has instituted a new lecture series in collaboration with leading tertiary institutions across the country.

The banking sector regulator, which disclosed this development in a statement Tuesday, September 30, 2025, said Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of CBN, launched the programme.

The Bank stated: “This initiative is designed to be a platform for thought-leadership discourse on national economic development.”

Cardoso, in the statement, also emphasised the CBN considers the initiative key to its strategy of deepening public understanding and strengthening the transmission of monetary policy in the ecosystem.

The statement further noted the CBN Chief would deliver the landmark inaugural lecture at the Lagos Business School (LBS), Friday, October 3, 2025.

The lecture, which is titled: “Next Generation Leadership in Monetary Policy and Nation Building”, is being organised to serve a dual purpose, according to CBN.

According to the bank, the inaugural edition at LBS would commemorate the 2nd Anniversary of “Team Cardoso” leadership of the CBN.

The statement noted that his leadership is a period defined by a renewed focus on price stability, institutional transparency, and anchoring monetary policy to the everyday realities of Nigerians.

The lecture series, the Bank said also “aims to foster dialogue, promote innovation, and advance an inclusive financial system that works for all Nigerians, while positioning the country as a leader on both the African and global stages.”

According to CBN, since Cardoso assumed office as the Governor of CBN September 2023, has has consistently focused on the Bank’s core mandate of safeguarding price stability as a necessity to drive sustainable economic growth and protecting livelihoods in Nigeria.

Stressing the significance of adaptive policy in a changing world at a recent engagement, Cardoso had said: “Nigeria is at a pivotal moment, where technology, global financial realignments, and the energy of its youthful population are reshaping its economic future.

“Innovation must be harnessed intentionally and confidently, particularly by institutions like the CBN.”

The lecture is expected to draw a high-profile audience, including senior policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and students, thereby emphasising the crucial role of monetary policy in fostering stability, growth, and national development.
