OAU shines at 2025 National Conference of English Scholars

Five distinguished scholars of English and Literary Studies were conferred with the Association’s highest honour at the Annual National Conference of the English Scholars’ Association of Nigeria (ESAN), held September 16, 2025, at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Port Harcourt, in Rivers State, South-South region.

ConsumerConnect reports the authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria, which noted this development said the University’s Management celebrated two awardees among the five from its Department of English, Faculty of Arts.

The University disclosed these are Prof. E.T.O. Babalola, Member of the OAU Governing Council and current Head of Department of English, as well as Prof. Rotimi Taiwo, a former Head of Department of English at OAU.

Commenting on the recognition of two scholars from the University, the Management, in a statement on its verified social media account, noted Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire, Vice-Chancellor of OAU, congratulated Prof. Babalola and Prof. Taiwo on their honours.

Bamire stated: “This achievement is a testament to the intellectual leadership and scholarly excellence that OAU continues to nurture.

“We are immensely proud of Professors Babalola and Taiwo for bringing honour to the University and for their lasting contributions to English and Literary Studies in Nigeria and beyond.”

The University also asserted that the latest recognition of the two scholars again, underscores OAU’s enduring legacy of excellence in English and Literary Studies, and its other scholars’ outstanding contributions to national and international scholarship.
