NDLF: NITDA, NSSEC train teachers in data literacy, content creation and online safety

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), commenced a three-week nationwide training for teachers on 3rd September 2025.

ConsumerConnect reports NITDA disclosed the training programme began with virtual sessions for 3,600 teachers before transitioning to a two-day physical training for selected participants across all the 36 States and Abuja, FCT.

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency said the participants engaged in hands-on learning, covering the six competence areas of its National Digital Literacy Framework (NDLF).

According to NITDA, the NDLF competence areas include operation of digital devices, information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, safety, and problem solving.

Core objectives of training programme

Highlighting the overarching objective of the programme, the agency, in a statement via its verified social media account, noted that the initiative “seeks to empower teachers with modern tools and innovative teaching methods that will enhance classroom delivery, stimulate creativity, and prepare students for participation in the digital economy.”

It is further stated that NITDA supported the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) to infuse digital literacy into the newly released basic education curricula for schools and colleges in Nigeria.

According the NITDA, for sustainability, selected participants who demonstrated the most promise would be trained as “Master Trainers” to train other teachers across the West African country.

The agency as well emphasised the teachers’ digital training initiative is anchored on President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0).

This effort represents a national drive towards achieving 70 percent digital literacy in Nigeria by 2027, NITDA stated.
