NASENI, NiDCOM partner to drive Diaspora innovations for sustainable development

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) are partnering to explore new ways of building innovations and technology, using the expertise and skills of Diaspora Nigerians and citizens at home.

Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of NASENI, and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, disclosed this during a recent strategic meeting at NiDCOM Headquarters, in Abuja, FCT.

The two Federal Government agencies described this collaboration as a “timely intervention”.

It is also noted that the collaboration between NASENI and NiDCOM would help to connect Nigeria’s local innovators with scientists, engineers, technologists, and entrepreneurs in the Diaspora.

Soeaking at the meeting, NASENI said Halilu highlighted the agency’s key projects, including Revolut, a payment platform already serving thousands of Nigerians with low-cost, real-time transfers; the Innovation Hub and Incubation Programme, which funds Nigerian scientists and innovators, both in home and diaspora.

The EVC/CEO of NASENI also noted the Delta-2 project, which is a partnership with the Czech Republic entering its third phase September 2025.

Halilu: Objectives of partnership between NASENI, NiDCOM

The collaboration is designed to bring new technology and international collaboration to Nigeria, stated Halilu, EVC/CEO of the market regulatory agency.

He also affirmed that his visit to NiDCOM was to present two key projects: a government-backed payment platform, similar to Revolut, designed to be seamless, flexible, multi-currency, and to provide real-time monitoring at affordable rates.

According to him, the second project aims to engage Nigerians in the Diaspora, particularly in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, to develop practical projects that can grow the economy.

Commending Hon. Dabiri-Erewa, Mr. Halilu stated that NiDCOM’s database of professionals would play an essential role towards adding more value to the Nigerian economy.

The Chairman of NiDCOM asserted that the partnership would foster opportunities for Nigerians everywhere to work together for the country’s progress through sharing ideas, skills, and experiences.

These can help to build a stronger, more innovative Nigeria, especially under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dabiri-Erewa noted.

She also lauded the the agency for its operations.

The NiDCOM Chief Executive assured that the Commission would give the agency the needed support, suggesting the NASENI team to participate in the 8th Nigeria Diaspora Investment it (NDIS).

The event holds November 11-13, 2025, in Abuja.

According to NASENI, both the agency and the Commission further agreed to set up a joint working committee to streamline areas of collaboration and design projects focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), alongside wider Diaspora engagement.
