BMW recalls 2, 779 model years 2019-2020 vehicles with steering issue

*Steering gear tie rods may become damaged

BMW of North America is recalling 2,779 model year 2019 Z4 sDrive30i, 2019-2020 330i xDrive, M340i & M340i xDrive, model year 2020 X3M & X4M, and Toyota Supra vehicles.

Report indicates that under certain driving conditions, such as high temperatures and rough road surfaces, a steering gear tie rod may become damaged, possibly resulting in a fractured tie rod, according to ConsumerAffairs.

A damaged or fractured tie rod may affect vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

On how to rectify the fault, report says BMW and Toyota would notify vehicle affected owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear tie rods, free of charge.

This recall is expected to begin August 7, 2020, and concerned owners may contact BMW Customer Service on (800) 525-7417 or Toyota Customer Service on (888) 270-9371.
