NITDA harps on central role of cybersecurity in protecting Nigerians, critical digital infrastructure

In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s priority area of strengthening national security for peace and prosperity of Nigerians, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has stressed the significant role of cybersecurity in safeguarding the society.

ConsumerConnect reports Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of NITDA emphasised this at a recent workshop series, held in Abuja, FCT, with the theme, “Critical National Information Infrastructure Protection and Resilience”.

The Information Technology (IT) sector regulatory agency said the stakeholders’ forum was aimed at engaging policymakers and sector regulators on ensuring the country’s security in cyberspace.

Delivering a goodwill message at the workshop held in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), in Abuja, Inuwa dissected the crucial role of cybersecurity in safeguarding society in consonance with President Tinubu administration’s priority area of consolidating national security for peace and prosperity of consumers.

The Director-General of the agency also reaffirmed “NITDA’s commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to advance the protection of the nation’s critical information infrastructure.”

According to him, the development of secure, locally-produced software is imperative in addition to the protection of the Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).

The agency in a blog note, disclosed the event, which Malam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA), hosted also attracted distinguished attendees, including H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, Honourable Minister for Defence; Mr. Wale Edun, Honourable Minister for Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; and other key leaders from various government parastatals.
