Against the backdrop of recent controversy over the need to lift petrol from Dangote’s, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has explained the Association is still negotiating with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, in Lagos, on “terms” of lifting the product.

ConsumerConnect reports Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President/Chief Executive (CE) of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), during the week, told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other stakeholders in the downstream petroleum sector in a meeting in the State House of his experience thus far.

Dangote had alleged that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and other petroleum marketers have been importing petrol from foreign refineries, refusing to approach his oil-refining facility to lift petroleum products.

The President/CE of DIL also claimed that his oil refinery has 500 million litres of petrol in storage, sufficient for domestic consumption.

Chief Chinedu Ukadike, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of IPMAN, however, told Vanguard that the independent marketers have not yet commenced direct lifting of petrol from the Dangote Refinery.

The IPMAN image maker disclosed that talks with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery are in progress.

Ukadike said: “We haven’t received products from Dangote Refinery yet, but the processes are underway, and I’ll update you once they’re finalised.”

He further stated: “The product isn’t available to independent marketers yet.

“I think he (Dangote) is adopting a systematic marketing approach, but our discussions are progressing.”
