Nigerian Economy: VP Shettima explores telecoms, transport solutions with investors in Sweden

In a bid to expand Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and attain proffer far-reaching transport solutions, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State are in Sweden to explore sustainable transportation solutions and innovative telecommunications advancements for Nigeria.

Mr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, who disclosed this development in a statement issued at the weekend in Jos, Plateau State capital, said the focused, high-level discussions were part of Vice-President Shettima and Governor Muftwang’s plans, during their official visit to the European country.

ConsumerConnect reports the Nigerian Vice-President, Governor Mutfwang, as well as other top government officials, including Dr. ’Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); and Malam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), were on the two-day strategic visit to Sweden.

Bere also stated: “The delegation’s visit included engagements with industry leaders at Scania and Ericsson, both of which hold significant potential for transforming Nigeria’s infrastructure.

“During their visit to Scania’s headquarters in Södertälje, the Nigerian team engaged with the renowned automotive manufacturer, known for its pioneering green innovations.”

The statement noted: “Scania, a leader in heavy-duty truck and bus production, is set to partner with Nigeria in modernising the country’s transportation sector through biofuel-powered solutions.

“Mr. Fredrik Wijkander of the Scania Group, who led the Vice President and his delegation on a tour of the company’s facilities, emphasised Scania’s role in revolutionising the transport sector worldwide and the potential impact of biofuel technologies in Nigeria.”

5G Services and deployment of robust digital infrastructure

Speaking on the move to engage Swedish investors in high-level talks on innovative solutions in the telecoms and transport sectors of the economy, Shettima also led the delegation on a similar mission to Ericsson, the global telecommunications giant, for high-level discussions on boosting Nigeria’s digital landscape.

The Director of Press and Public Affairs to Muftwang equally said: “They were warmly welcomed by Mr. Patrick Johansson, Senior Vice President and Head of Middle East and Africa, and Mr. Peter Olusoji Ogundele, Head of Ericsson Nigeria.

“The talks centred on strategic collaborations to enhance Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, accelerate the implementation of 5G technology, and develop robust digital infrastructure to support a rapidly evolving global communication landscape.”

He further stated: “A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between Nigeria and Ericsson, marking a significant step towards deploying 5G technology across critical sectors in the country.

“This partnership aims to drive technological transformation and stimulate economic growth by integrating cutting-edge communication solutions.”
