Energy: Pure white fuel from Dangote Refinery is ‘best form of petrol’ ─Stakeholders

Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, and certain Abubakar B., an industry expert has explained the reason for the whitish appearance of the fuel from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, Lagos, the adjudged commercial capital of Nigeria.

Abubakar B., a Project Manager’s explanation comes on the heels of the recent rollout of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol for the $20billion, and 650,000 barrels per day (pbd) oil-refining facility.

ConsumerConnect reports Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Tuesday, September 3, 2024, officially confirmed the rollout of Premium Motor Spirit from the world’s largest single-train refinery.

Reflecting on the achievement of starting PMS production 28 years after Nigeria’s four refineries ceased domestic refining while speaking to reporters at the refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President/Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), emphasised this development would boost the industrial and manufacturing sectors.

Dangote also highlighted that the petroleum refinery would significantly reduce fuel imports, save Foreign Exchange (Forex), and would contribute to stabilising the Naira, lowering inflation, and reducing the cost of living for consumers.

“Today (Tuesday) is a momentous occasion because Nigeria has not produced petrol, or gasoline, for many years,” Dangote told reporters at the refinery in Lagos.

In regard to the appearance of the petrol brand from the Dangote Refinery, Abubakar took to his verified social media account to offer a professional insight on the unusual colour of the petroleum product in the Nigerian oil and gas space, said the reason why the PMS is pure like water.

According to him, “petrol has different colours: When it’s red that means cctane was added.

“When it’s slightly green then octane is somewhat very much.

“When it is yellow it means it has no lead in it. That means it’s unleaded.”

He further explained “when it’s clear as water as seen in the video then you should know that ethanol was used.

“What ethanol does is that it improves engine efficiency and power.

“Because ethanol has a good amount of oxygen it lessens the amount of carbonation in engines thereby reducing air pollution which comes as Carbon dioxide.”

Abubakar added by declaring “this is the best form of petrol.”

In the same vein, Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, also Thursday highlighted reasons why the Premium Motor Spirit also known as fuel produced by Dangote’s refinery is pure white in colour.

Charly Boy explained that the fuel from Dangote’s refinery was refined from ethanol, making it efficient for engines.

He equally disclosed that fuel from Ethanol has a good amount of oxygen which lessens the amount of carbonation in engines.

The Maverick entertainer, fuel refined from Ethanol reduces air pollution which comes as Carbon dioxide.

In a post titled, “Why Dangote fuel is white,” Charly Boy wrote: “Reason why the PMS is pure like water. Petrol has different colors, when it’s Red that means Octane was added.
