President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Monday, August 19, 2024, departed Abuja, FCT, for Paris, in France, using the new Airbus A330.

The new “Nigerian Air Force” jet, has replaced the 19-year-old Boeing B737-700(BBJ) bought under the Presidency of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who disclosed this development evening Monday stated that the Federal Government of Nigeria bought the new plane “far below the market price”.

Onanuga said this has saved Nigeria huge maintenance and fuel costs, running into millions of Dollars yearly.

The statement noted: “The recommendation to replace the B737-700 (BBJ) followed an investigative hearing by Nigeria’s parliament that questioned the plane’s safety record and cost efficiency, especially after it malfunctioned during a trip to Saudi Arabia.”

The Presidential aide also stated: “The Nigerian Senate Security and Intelligence Committee recommended replacing the ageing aircraft in the presidential fleet to reduce downtime and operational expenses.”

Earlier Sunday, August 18, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, disclosed President Tinubu would embark on an official visit to France Monday.

He said Tinubu would return to the country after his stay in the European country.

Ngelale noted: “President Bola Tinubu will embark on a trip to France on Monday, August 19, departing from Abuja, the nation’s capital.

“The President will return to the country after his brief work stay in France.”
