For an alleged alteration, the Governorship Electoral Petition Tribunal sitting in Bayelsa State of Nigeria has ordered Sen. Lawrence O. Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of the state, to provide the original of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Certificate of Exemption.

It was gathered that the tribunal Tuesday, June 2 issued the order sequel to a subpoena on the former Senator of the Federal Republic to produce the original of his Certificate of Exemption issued to him by the NYSC in 1998.

A Sample of NYSC Certificate of Exemption

The subpoena was issued on the request of Mr. Vija Opuama, the governorship candidate for the Liberation Movement Party in the November 2019 Bayelsa Governorship Election.

Mr. Opuama has purported that the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor submitted a forged NYSC exemption certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Report further says that Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor, initially had challenged the subpoena and prayed the court to set it aside.

He, however, withdrew the motion Tuesday through his counsel, Chukwuma Machukwu Ume (SAN), who said his client was then ready to attend the sitting of the Tribunal and would no longer challenge the subpoena.

Consequently, the Chairman of the tribunal ordered Ewhrudjakpo to appear before it.
