In a move to boost the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the mining sector of the economy, the Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Mineral Resources Decision Support System (NMDSS).

Dr. Oladele Alake, Honourable Minister for Solid Minerals Development, while launching the NMDSS, stated that the portal would expand access of prospective investors to critical information on Nigeria’s mineral deposits, policies guiding the mining sector, and incentives for investment from anywhere in the world.

ConsumerConnect reports Dr. Alake stated the Nigeria Mineral Resources Decision Support System is a communication tool to enhance government strategy to ease business in the solid minerals sector of the economy.

In connection with cost-saving opportunities of the new system, the Minister said prospective foreign investors would save the cost of travel and accommodation by logging on to the NMDSS Web site to find answers to their enquiries.

Segun Tomori, Special Assistant to the Minister on Media, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, noted in a statement Dr. Alake said: “With this launch today, anywhere you are in the world, with a click of a button, you can access all the information you require to make informed investment decisions about the mining sector.”

The Minister also emphasised that the support system would assist critical stakeholders in the mining sector and potential investors to garner requisite information.

According to him, this arrangement would bring them closer to the mining industry and provide answers to pertinent questions about mineral deposits and mining infrastructure in Nigeria, among others.

Implementation of 7-point agenda for mining industry

In regard to ongoing efforts at sanitising the mining sector, Alake further disclosed that the nefarious activities of illegal miners are being curbed by the recently unveiled mining marshals.

The Minister equally revealed that about 152 cooperatives have been formed by artisanal miners to legalise their operations, in line with his 7-point agenda for the sector.

NMDSS, a game-changer in mining sector, says Interior Minister

Speaking at the NMDSS launch, Hon. Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo, Honourable Minister for Interior, lauded the transformative leadership, which he noted Alake has brought to bear on the mining sector.

Hon. Olubunmi-Ojo said the launch of the NMDSS is a game-changer that would attract more foreign investments.

The Minister also stated: “Saudi Arabia today has non-oil industry contributing over 50% to her Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“If Saudi Arabia can do it, Nigeria can do it, and the journey starts with the Ministry of Solid Minerals. “With a workaholic and visionary Minister like Dr. Alake, working earnestly to attract the big players and also supporting local operators, the sky is the starting point.”

He said: “For us in the Ministry of Interior, we are there to support because a reformed mining industry is the pivot of the Renewed Hope agenda.”

In her closing remarks on the occasion, Dr. Mary Ogbe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, charged critical

stakeholders in the mining sector, and Nigerians at large to market the country’s vast solid minerals potential.

Dr. Ogbe stressed that reforms of the present administration are steadily repositioning the mining sector.

According to Dr. Alake’s media aide, the Nigeria Mineral Resource Decision Support System (NMDSS) is a comprehensive software platform that serves as a one-stop shop for investors seeking credible and decisive information about Nigeria’s mineral resources, facilities and infrastructure.
