The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has diclosed the recovery of N30 billion from its ongoing investigations into Ms. Betta Edu, suspended Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The recovered amount has been returned to the Federal Government’s coffers, according to report.

Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of EFCC, in a bulletin was quoted to have disclosed that the Commission is currently probing 50 bank accounts associated with the suspended Minister and the Ministry.

Olukoyede indicated that investigations take time, stating, “It takes time to conclude investigations; we started this matter less than six weeks ago. There are cases that take years to investigate.”

The EFCC Executive Chairman, however, reassured Nigerians of the Commission’s commitment to thorough and professional investigations.

He equally, appealed for patience as the anti-graft regulatory agency follows up on various leads in the course of investigation.

Olukoyede also highlighted the significant workload of the EFCC, noting that they are handling thousands of cases simultaneously.

He emphasised the impact of their efforts so far, including suspensions and recoveries made, and urged Nigerians to wait for due process to take its course.

It is recalled that following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive January 8, Edu was suspended, and the EFCC was tasked with the responsibility of “thoroughly” investigating the financial transactions of her Ministry.

ConsumerConnect reports the Ministry oversees social investment programmes, including the N-Power programme, Conditional Cash Transfer programme, government enterprise and empowerment programme, and homegrown school feeding initiative.

The Federal Government subsequently, suspended all the programmes after Edu’s suspension January this year.
