Safety: Ford recalls 77,574 Ford Expeditions, Lincoln Navigators over faulty seat belt pretensioners

Ford Motor Company is recalling 77,574 model year 2018-2020 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators.

The automobile manufacturer said the seat belt pretensioner in the driver and/or front passenger seat of the affected vehicles may inadvertently deploy and lock the seat belt, which will not allow the belt to retract or extend.

Ford explained the seat belts that fail to retract or extend may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

As regards measures to address the issue, the company the dealers would inspect and replace the seat belt retractors as necessary, agency report said.

Additionally, they will install an HVAC drain tube elbow if it is missing.

It also noted that repairs would be performed free of charge.

Meanwhile, interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed March 4, 2024.

A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, anticipated second half of 2024.
