President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has commiserated with the Government and people of Namibia over the demise of the country’s President Hage Gottfried Geingob.

The Nigerian President, who said this in a statement he personally signed and issued Sunday, February 4, 2024, noted: “On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I extend our deepest condolences to the government and people of Namibia over the passing of His Excellency, President Hage Geingob.”

Tinubu stated: “I mourn the painful loss of a veteran in the struggle for democracy, a proponent of good governance and advocate for economic, social, and political solidarity among African peoples.”

He also said Geingob’s passage came at a time when Africa is in “dire need of more visionary leaders who believe in our common destiny and who can strengthen the bonds across our borders and spread the tendrils of cooperation in all fields of human endeavour.”

President Tinubu added: “As Namibia mourns, I want to assure the Republic that my thoughts and prayers, and indeed those of all Nigerians, are with you.”

ConsumerConnect reports late President Hage Gottfried Geingob (3 August 1941 – 4 February 2024) was a Namibian politician who served as the third President of the African country from 2015 until his death February this year.

Tinubu mourns late Jimi Solanke, iconic actor and playwright

In a related development, President Tinubu has said he received with a heavy heart the news of the passing of Nigeria’s creative icon, Mr. Jimi Solanke, who died Monday, February 5.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Monday stated President Tinubu Baba Solanke was an actor, dramatist, folk singer, poet and playwright.

The statement said: “President Tinubu mourns the literary and cultural virtuoso and describes him as one of the finest of Nigeria’s creative artists and bastion of our cherished mores and cultural heritage.

“The President condoles with the Solanke family and all those who mourn this painful loss while praying for the peaceful repose of the beloved departed.”
