One thousand five hundred staff at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Nigeria, stormed the tertiary hospital Thursday, February 1, 2024, to protest against their sack by the Management of the health institution.

ConsumerConnect reports the Management of the hospital Wednesday, had asked the protesting employees to stop coming to work.

However, the affected health workers have lamented that they were dismissed after working for months without pay, according to report.

It is also recalled that the Management of the OAUTHC employed the workers in 2022. However, the Federal Government noted that the Management and some workers were involved in job racketeering, thereby resulting in their sack.

Displeased with the development, the affected workers besieged the hospital’s main gate Thursday, chanting solidarity songs to express their grievances, asking the Management to rescind its decision and recall them.

The main gate of the hospital was shut, and workers were not allowed entry at the times of the aggrieved workers’ protest.

Essential services were also disrupted by the sacked workers’ protest, report said.
