Ford Motor Company is recalling 45,173 model year 2015 Ford Fiestas and model year 2016 Fusions, and model year 2016 Lincoln MKZs.

The automobile manufacturer said the affected vehicle models originally, were sold or registered in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan) and the US Virgin Islands.

This latest recall is an expansion of a recall issued in early 2020, agency report said.

Ford further explained that a component inside the door latches may break, and this can make it difficult to latch, or possibly allow the doors to open while the vehicle is being driven.

The company said vehicle doors that open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion can increase the risk of a crash or injury to consumers.

In connection with what to do in addressing the defect, Ford said dealers would inspect the door latch date codes and — if necessary — replace all four side door latches free of charge.

Letters notifying owners of this issue are expected to be mailed December 4, 2023.

Meanwhile, affected vehicle owners may contact Ford Customer Service on (866) 436-7332.

Ford’s number for this recall is 20S15.
