Honda recalls 176,410 Civic vehicles over damaged, risky tyres

Emmanuel Akosile | ConsumerConnect

American Honda Motor Company is recalling 176,410 model year 2022-2024 Civic 4-door and 5-door vehicles that received a replacement power steering rack as part of a service repair.

The automobile manufacturer said the steering rack might have been assembled incorrectly, which can allow the tyre to chafe against the lower suspension or tie rod end, possibly resulting in tire damage.

Honda stressed that a damaged tyre could fail and increase the risk of a crash or injury to consumers.

On what to do in dressing the defect, the company noted that dealers would inspect and replace the electric power steering rack — as necessary — free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 4, 2023, agency report said.

Meanwhile, affected vehicle owners may contact Honda Customer Service on (888) 234-2138.

Honda’s number for this recall is YFW.
