Mercedes-Benz recalls 5,326 AMG SL55, AMG SL63 vehicles over potential loss of drive power

Emmanuel Akosile | ConsumerConnect

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) is recalling 5,326 model year 2022-2023 AMG SL55s and AMG SL63s.

The automobile manufacturer said the electrical wiring harness for the starter and alternator of the affected vehicles might not be secured properly, which could result in a short circuit and a loss of drive power or cause the harness to overheat.

The company explained that a loss of drive power could increase the risk of a crash, and an overheated electrical wiring harness could increase the risk of a fire.

In regard to what to do in addressing the defect, MBUSA stated that dealers would secure the electrical wiring harness for the starter and alternator free of charge.

Notification letters will be mailed to owners starting December 5, 2023, agency report noted.

Affected vehicle owners may contact MBUSA Customer Service on (800) 367-6372.
