Digital Economy: EU, Nigeria partner to activate €900m package for smart agric, sustainable energy, education, others

In a way to deepen bilateral cooperation and partnership for development in key sectors of the economy, Nigeria and the European Commission (EU) have held a strategic dialogue in Abuja, FCT.

ConsumerConnect reports Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, while making remarks on the dialogue held Thursday, October 19, 2023, in Abuja, FCT, noted via a blog post, that “it was refreshing to participate in the EU-Nigeria strategic dialogue.”

The Minister stated the over €900million (Euros) package is a central part of the cooperation between the country and EU to advance green, resilient, digital inclusive transition under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration and the EU Global Gateway.

Tijani also wrote on the key objective of the cooperation: “The package will specifically drive among other things: climate, smart agriculture, sustainable energy, access to health services and education.”

It is recalled that Dr. Tijani recently launched Nigeria’s “Accelerating our Collective Prosperity through Technical Efficiency: A Strategic Plan for the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy” document for the industry stakeholders, in Abuja.

In regard to publication of the new operating document for the industry, the Minister stated: “I am excited to release our draft Strategic Blueprint for the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy today.

“We made a commitment to share this document with you all in our spirit of openness and co-creation.”

According to him, the blueprint has been carefully crafted based on extensive engagement with stakeholders from the Ministry’s departments, units and parastatals, ecosystem stakeholders and his immediate team.

“It is designed as a living document outlining our high level focus areas, as we firm up plans to operationalise the goals shared in the document.

“I encourage you all to share your thoughts with us by reaching us at the email address provided within the document.

“I am confident about our next steps as we activate this blueprint and deliver on our plans in line with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, for the good of all.”
