Dangote Sugar employs 7,000 Nigerian youths yearly on BI projects –Management

*The Dangote Sugar Refinery states the company has ‘contributed immensely in the realisation of the Backward Integration programme of the Federal Government’, noting it is set to redirect excess energy to national grid for Nigerian electricity consumers

Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) has said that the conglomerate employs about 7,000 workers yearly in its Backward Integration Projects (BIPs), located in Numan, Adamawa State, North-Eastern Nigeria.

Bello Abdullahi Dan-Musa, Group General Manager, Operations of the company, stated this while speaking during a recent media tour of the company in Numan.

Dan-Musa said despite employing thousands of able-bodied Nigerian youths as a direct employee, the company also employed over 7,000 youths at the peak of the production season in the country.

The company also noted that Dangote Group remains the biggest employer of labour after the Nigerian Government.

Dangote Sugar stated: “Only recently, the company paid over N500 million to the out-growers for the sugarcane they produced under the DSR Numan out-growers scheme.”

According to him, the current capacity of the DSR Numan refinery of 4,800 Tonnes of Cane Per Day (TCD) is being upgraded to 6,000 TCD by end of 2023, 9,800TCD by 2024 and subsequently to 15,000TCD.

“Dangote Sugar Refinery, Numan, has contributed immensely in the realisation of the Backward Integration programme of the Federal Government.

“Dangote Sugar Refinery is Nigeria’s largest producer of household and commercial sugar,” he said.

Dan-Musa also disclosed Aliko Dangote, President/Chief Executive of Dangote Group, had said that upon completion of the BIP projects, his sugar company would be able to create about 300, 000 direct and indirect jobs, with positive multiplier effects on the national economy.

Also speaking during the media tour, Mr. Chinnaya Sylvain Judex, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said the expansion drive had reached a significant mileage.

Judex noted that the company acquired state-of-the-art machines to support its production process.

He stated that the firm’s facilities are environmentally friendly.

The company’s Backward Integration goal is to become a global force in sugar production, by producing 1.5million MT/PA of refined sugar from locally grown sugar cane for the domestic and export markets, he also said.

Company now operates independent power system: CEO

Judex further disclosed now company operates an independent power system, and that excess energy will be redirected to the national grid.

According to him, the power, from the Dangote Sugar Refinery, Numan, when redirected to the National Grid has the potential to contribute immensely to the rapid development of the economy of the entire North-East region of Nigeria.

The company’s Chief Executive said that the energy would bring about accelerated development and industrialisation in the region.

Commendations for Dangote Sugar on projects

Meanwhile, Dr. Daniel Ismailia, the Paramount Ruler of Bachama Kingdom in Adamawa State, has commended the company for its numerous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in the host communities.

The Royal Father expressed the commendation when speaking at the time a team of journalists from the state visited his office.

Dr. Ismailianh described the intervention of the company as huge.

The Paramount Ruler said the presence of the company had helped to bring down the rate of criminalities in the state.

He equally commended the company for creating thousands of job opportunities for the people of Adamawa State, and Nigeria.

The Bachama Kingdom is the biggest beneficiary of the company, stated he.

The Executive Director, Climate Africa Media Initiative and Centre (CAMIC) Mr. Aliu Akoshile applauded the Hama Bachama for providing the peaceful environment needed to do business in his domain.

Likewise,

Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan, Adamawa State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), commended the Monarch for always playing a fatherly role, adding that the Adamawa people are proud that the company has provided jobs for their people.

In his earlier presentation, Prof. John Ngamsa of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, urged journalists to invest in environmental journalism with all seriousness because the environment is man’s only protective territory.
