Lagos Assembly rejects Abayomi, Omotoso, 15 others, confirms 22 commissioner-nominees

Sequel to what the state legislature has described as ‘detailed screening’ of the nominees by its Ad-hoc Committee, the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA) Wednesday, August 23, 2023, confirmed 22 out of the 39 cabinet nominees Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu earlier sent for screening.

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who presided over the day’s sitting, said the confirmation followed rigorous and detailed screening of the nominees by an Ad-hoc Committee led by Hon. Fatai Mojeed, Chief Whip of the House, according to report.

Before the exercise, Hon. Fatai had briefed the House on the outcome of the screening exercise.

The confirmation was done through a voice vote as Dr. Obasa mentioned the names of each of the nominees.

Obasa lauded the committee for its effectiveness, and urged the confirmed commissioner-nominees to always remember that they are in office to serve Lagosians, and not individuals.

The Speaker pledged the LSHA would continue to do its best in the interest of the people of the cosmopolitan state in Nigeria.

But no specific reasons were disclosed for the refusal of the House to confirm the 17 nominees.
