The flames of love can burn forever among couples even in this era of frequent marriage breakdowns.

This is according to one of the parts at the 2023 “Exercise Patience!” Regional Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Over 5,000 delegates gathered over the weekend at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Ota, Ogun State, were given three “secrets” on how to keep the flames of their love burning indefinitely in their marriage.

Entitled, “Keep ‘the Flame of Jah’ Alive”, the convention part, one of the highlights of the Sunday session, was taken from the May 2023 Study Edition of The Watchtower.

The theme was based on Song of Solomon 8: 6, which reads: “Love’s ‘flames are a blazing fire, the flame of Jah. Surging waters cannot extinguish love, nor can rivers wash it away’.”

The delegates were told: “Whether a married couple will have unfailing love as long as they live depends on them.

“To illustrate, a campfire has the potential to burn indefinitely—but only if it is fed. If left unattended, the fire will eventually go out.

“Likewise, the love between a husband and wife can remain strong indefinitely—but only if they nurture their relationship.”

3 Ways to keep love alive and enjoy your marriage

The interactive convention part noted that “at times, a couple could feel that their love is cooling off, especially when they are weighed down by financial hardship, health concerns, or the pressures of raising children.”

It disclosed three “secrets” to keep a relationship strong and a marriage happy.

These are “keep strengthening your relationship with Jehovah, spend time together, treat each other respectfully.”

The part further explained that “true love cannot be extinguished”, and advised the delegates to do all they can to make the love in their marriage to be like the one described in the Song of Solomon—a love the fire of which burns without end.

The convention, which had a peak attendance of 5,143 and had 88 new Witnesses baptised, is the first in a series of over 320 to be held in 39 host cities across Nigeria.

Globally, some 6,000 conventions are scheduled to be held during the series that started outside the West African country from January 7, 2023.
