In line with the financial institution’s Employee Volunteering Scheme (EVS) signposting the essence of Corporate Social Responsibility, the Lagos State Government (LASG) has commended Access Bank Plc for rebuilding the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) Office facility.

ConsumerConnect learnt that hoodlums had burnt the rehabilitated facility in the heat of the EndSARS protests in 2020 in the state.

Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation in Lagos State, who spoke at the commissioning of the facility at the VIS  Headquarters Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Ojodu-Berger, in Lagos, said the bank’s commitment and dedication to the reconstruction of the VIS Annex Office complex is part of Access Bank Plc’s EVS that exemplifies the essence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Toriola said the partnership had not only brought about the restoration of a crucial government’s asset, but also rekindled hope in the hearts of Lagosians.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation also noted the Access Bank partnership with the Lagos State Government was a shining example of how the government and corporate entities could synergise to holistically address societal challenges and make positive impact in the society.

The facility, Toriola stated, will further enhance productivity and efficiency of VIS.

He further assured the bank that the State Government would put the rehabilitated facility to good use by taking full ownership and providing the necessary maintenance and protection it deserves.

The Permanent Secretary as well commended the VIS Officers for their resilience all through the rebuilding process and further seek more collaboration from other corporate organisations.

According to him, Lagos State is committed and open to strategic partnership that will reshape the cosmopolitan state.

Earlier in his remarks at the event, Engr. Akin-George Fashola Director of Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) in Lagos State, had appreciated the bank for its benevolence and unwavering support towards the rebuilding of the edifice.

Engr. Fashola stated: “As we recall the events that transpired during the EndSARS protests in the Year 2020, it is evident that our resolve was put to test.

“The unfortunate incident that resulted in the destruction of our office premises by hoodlums left us grappling with the loss.”

The Director of VIS, however, said “today, we stand tall as a testament to the indomitable spirit of unity and support that defines our dear state.

“In the wake of the devastation, Access Bank stepped forward as a shining example for emulation by other corporate organisations, exemplifying their dedication to community development and nation-building.”
