Safety: Nigerian legislators urge Federal Government, states to prepare for flood disasters

*The Nigerian House of Representatives has urged the Federal and State governments to prepare palliatives and proactive intervention measures for Nigerians in oder to to reduce the effects of flood disasters this year

In view of the raining season and expected downpour in the course this year, the Nigerian House of Representatives, in the National Assembly (NASS), Abuja, FCT, has urged the Federal and State governments to prepare for impending flood disasters.

ConsumerConnect reports tje Federal Legislature also resolved to invite the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to brief the lawmakers on proactive measures in place to tackle flooding.

Ex-Speaker Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, stated this in a motion of urgent importance moved shortly before he resigned from the House of Representatives to take up a new role as the Chief of Staff (CoS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

After the former House Speaker’s proposition, the House of Representatives expressed concerns that large portions of the West African country are susceptible to flooding, in line with the forecast of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) January 2023.

Specifically, the Federal legislators urged the  governments and relevant agencies to prepare palliatives and intervention measures for Nigerians to reduce the effects of flood disasters on the populace.
