NCC’s Ibietan new book, ‘Cyber Politics’, now live on Amazon

“Cyber Politics: Social Media, Social Demography and Voting Behaviour in Nigeria”, a new book by Dr. Omoniyi P. Ibietan, is now live and accessible for potential readers on Amazon, the e-commerce giant and global technology company’s platform.

ConsumerConnect reports Dr. Ibietan, who is the Head of Online Media and Special Publications at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and author of the fresh contribution to scholarship, disclosed this development in a post via his verified social media account Thursday, June 1, 2023.

He also noted that readers could acquire copies of the book in either Kindle, Hardcover or Paperback.

According to Ibietan, there is also a provision for those who require print copies of the book at “leading bookstores in Nigeria from June 12, 2023.”

The author further stated: “I will be glad to have your reviews when you get your copies. Thank you very sincerely.”

About the book

Ibietan’s “Cyber Politics: Social Media, Social Demography and Voting Behaviour in Nigeria”, was published 2023, in Washington, by Premium Times Books.

The scholarly work dissects the emerging game changer in cyber dynamics with a strategic analysis on Nigeria’s Social Media, Social Demography and Voting Behaviour in Nigeria.

It also centres on a new digital online and social media communication that examines issues on social fields and social demographic factor in the country.

Ibietan, in a recent blog post, described his new book as “an expansion of my doctoral research”, accepted four years ago, it’s a 466-Page literature that offers responses to the lingering questions of impact of digital media or social technology on the political process, particularly voting behaviour.

“It is anchored on quantitative and qualitative designs that ride on gripping theories.

“In it, I have offered a communication model derived from empirical research to validate how series of factors interact to shape political behaviour.”

The book author said: “I hope it helps to advance interest in psephology and enrich the quality of democracy, particularly in Africa.”

Omoniyi P. Ibietan, Ph.D, at a glance

Dr. Omoniyi P. Ibietan, FNIPR, who earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from the North-West University, South Africa, is a certified regulation specialist, multi-stakeholder relationship and communication management professional, and social entrepreneur.

He is the Head of Online Media and Special Publications at the NCC, Abuja, FCT.

Ibietan was also Senior Manager Media Management, and had earlier served the telecoms regulatory Commission as Senior Manager Legislative Relations at the Commission.

In that capacity, he was a frontline relationship manager of the Commission with the National Assembly (NASS), Nigeria’s Federal Bicameral Legislature. Omoniyi was also Manager, Media and PR at the Commission 2011. Before joining the NCC, in the summer of 2007, Omoniyi signed on with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NigComSat) Limited, set up its Corporate Communications Department, and later managed its Media Strategy and External Relations responsibilities. Between February 2006 and May 2007, he served as Special Assistant (Media) to Nigeria’s Federal Minister for Information and National Orientation (later Information and Communications).

Ibietan also worked with Freedom House (Nigeria Project, first in sub-Saharan Africa) as Regional Media Researcher in charge of Niger Delta region, during which period he was commissioned to conduct baseline studies of civil society groups in the Niger Delta as a preface to the Youth Leaders Training Workshop on Non-Violent Transformation of Conflict, organised by the Costa Rica-Based United Nations-mandated University for Peace.

The workshop held in Port Harcourt and he also served as a rapporteur at the workshop.

Early in his career, he worked as Staff Consultant with Set and Sell Communications Limited, publishers of Waterlink, the official journal of the Nigerian Water Supply Association. Equally, he was for a long time a volunteer staff of Eco-Outreach, a non-governmental environmental rights advocacy group in the Niger Delta, where he served as Programmes Officer.

Ibietan is an advocate of popular, representative and participatory democracy.
