The Osun State High Court, sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, has found Dr. Rahmon Adedoyin, owner of Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, and two of his staff, guilty and sentenced them to death by hanging over the murder of late Mr. Timothy Adegoke, a Master’s Degree student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife.

It is recalled Adegoke’s death reportedly occurred between November 5 and 7, 2021, at Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife.

Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, Chief Judge of Osun State High Court, who presided over the case, in his ruling, said that the court found Dr. Adedoyin and two of his staff guilty of murder and conspiracy, report said.

Justice Ojo held that the circumstantial evidence of the case had confirmed Adedoyin, founder of the hotel, and his staff killed Adegoke, while being a guest at the hotel, and they tried to conceal the situation.

According to the Judge, Dr. Adedoyin’s decision not to enter the witness box did not help him, as the circumstantial evidence had shifted the burden of proof on him.

Ojo further ruled that Adedoyin’s decision not to enter the witness box meant he agreed to the murder charge pressed against him by the prosecution.

She, therefore, dismissed the alibi pleaded on his behalf by his counsel, who said the hotel owner was in Abuja, FCT, for several days around the time the death of the late Adegoke occurred in his hotel in Ile-Ife.
