The Canadian Government has introduced a new open work permit for spouse, family of international students, other immigrants in the North American country.

ConsumerConnect learnt the Government announced the new policy was formulated to speed up the approval of family reunification applications.

Announcing the development Friday, May 26, 2023, Sean Fraser,

Canadian Immigration Minister, explained that the new measures were put in place to strengthen family reunification in Canada.

Specific benefits of new immigration policy

The government stated the new system will enable spouses, children, and parents of recent immigrants to join their loved ones in Canada faster.

According to the country’s Immigration Minister, the new policy uses advanced analytics and technology to process Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) applications for family members of permanent residents and citizens in 30 days.

The method, the Minister noted, had accepted far in advance 98 percent of TRV applications from spouses and their children.

Fraser said a new programme that would grant open work permits to spouse applicants and their dependant children, regardless of whether they applied under the family class as an overseas applicant or as an applicant for a spouse or common-law partner in Canada.

It is recalled Suella Braverman, United Kingdom’s Home Secretary, in a statement issued Tuesday, May 23, 2023, the British Government said the new restriction would come into effect for international students effective January 2024, in order to allow future foreign students time to plan ahead.

Braverman stated: “The UK is a top destination for the brightest students to learn at some of the world’s best universities.

“We have seen an unprecedented rise in the number of student dependents being brought into the country with visas.”

The Home Secretary also noted that it is time for the country to tighten up this route to ensure it can cut migration numbers and meet the government’s pledge to the British people to cut net migration, according to report.
