Nigel Farage, one of the biggest advocates of Britain’s departure from the European Union (EU), reckons Brexit has failed in the United Kingdom (UK).

ConsumerConnect gathered the former UKIP leader had blamed the Tory government for not taking advantage of leaving the EU in the last few years.

Farage stated this while responding to a raft of data suggesting there had been a negative economic impact of Brexit in the country.

He noted: “We’ve not delivered on Brexit and the Tories have let us down very, very badly.”

‘Brexit has failed’

The leading Brexit advocate, who spoke on the BBC’s Newsnight programme night on  Monday, May 15, also admitted that the UK had not benefited “economically” from leaving the bloc (EU).

Farage as well lamented “what Brexit has proved, I’m afraid, is that our politicians are about as useless as the commissioners in Brussels.

“We’ve mismanaged this totally. Brexit has failed.”

“We’ve not delivered on Brexit and the Tories have let us down very, very badly.”

On whether the UK would have been better off remaining in the EU, Farage, however, insisted he didn’t “think that for a moment.”

The UK economy has struggled to rebound, following the triple shocks of the damaging Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Russian-Ukraine war and the turbulence of Britain’s exit from the EU, according to report.

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) also projected that the British Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth would be the second worst after Russia among major economies.

The British Government’s economic watchdog, the Office for Budget Responsibility, also reportedly pointed the finger at Brexit for a significant downturn in UK trade intensity in recent times.

Possibility of a political comeback?

Meanwhile, Farage, who now hosts a show on the UK channel GB News, refused to rule out a political comeback.

He is currently the honorary President of the populist right-wing Reform U.K. party, which was formed from the Brexit Party he founded in the country.

But current Reform UK leader Richard Tice has said that the party would stand against every Tory MP at the next election, as it seeks to squeeze the Conservatives’ vote from the right, report noted.
