Nigeria recorded 117 new cases of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

In a tweet on its verified Twitter account, the NCDC said 59 cases were recorded in Lagos and 14 in Kano respectively.

It says the country’s total infections have risen to 782 as of 11:25p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

While deaths have risen to 25, at least 197 cases have recovered from the fatal disease.

“117 new cases of #COVID19 have been reported: 59 in Lagos, 29 in FCT, 14 in Kano, 6 in Borno, 4 in Katsina, 3 in Ogun, 1 in Rivers, and 1 in Bauchi.

“As of 11:25 p.m. on the 21st April, there are 782 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 197. Deaths: 25,” NCDC stated.

Earlier Tuesday, the Lagos State Government had said that it discharged nine more patients.

Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, had announced the discharge of the COVID-19 patients in the state.

The announcement was revealed in a tweet by Jubril Gawat, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on New Media.

According to Jubril, the patients include five females and four males, and a Polish national.

“Flash: The Incident Commander of the #Covid19Lagos and Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu has announced the discharge of 9 more #Covid19 patients, 5 females & 4 males which includes 1 foreign National – a polish … total discharged now 107.#ForAGreaterLagos pic.twitter.com/QhjX7Mxeuu at Gawat Jubril A. Recall that Lagos State did not record any Covid-19 case Monday, April 20, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, but two deaths were announced Tuesday.

Lagos is regarded as the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria and, as at Tuesday afternoon, had recorded 376 cases of the virus.

Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu has said those who those who lie about their travel history in respect of the Coronavirus pandemic put the lives of health workers and other citizens at risk.

ConsumerConnect reports that Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this at a press briefing Monday, April 20 vowed to prosecute victims of COVID-19 who lied to health professionals about their travel history.

He disclosed that the State Executive Council had resolved to prosecute the people found guilty of this.

Four people have already been identified and will be used as scapegoats, he said.

He described the action of such people as dangerous, noting that it poses health risks to not only people treating them but also the general public.

“It speaks to the dignity of what we truly believe in. After coming out of this meeting, we have resolved that we are actually going to prosecute the people.

“We have names of four people already that we are going to use as scapegoats and make an example of them.

“This is not the time for people to joke about who they are or who they are not,” Sanwo-Olu said.
