Kia recalls 108,936 Sportage, Niro, Soul vehicles over defective instrument cluster

Emmanuel Akosile | ConsumerConnect

Kia America is recalling 108,936 model year 2023 Sportages, Sportage Hybrids, Sportage Plug-in Hybrids, Niro Hybrids, Niro Plug-in Hybrids, Souls and Tellurides with a digital instrument cluster containing a 4.2″ LCD screen.

ConsumerConnect learnt the instrument cluster may fail to display any information when the vehicle is started.

Kia also explained that a blank instrument cluster display will not show critical information, such as tyre pressure, warning messages and warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash.

In regard to what to do in addressing the fault, the company noted dealers would update the instrument cluster software free of charge.

Affected vehicle owners will be notified by mail, with letters being issued May 26, 2023.

Owners may contact Kia Customer Service (800) 333-4542.

Kia’s number for this recall is SC270.
