The Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) says the multi-billion Naira Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals company will be inaugurated Saturday, May 22, 2023, in Lagos.

Mr. Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer,  disclosed this development to the News Agency of Nigeria Sunday, May 7, in Lagos.

ConsumerConnect reports the oil refining facility is expected to produce 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) with the cost of completion pegged at $19 billion.

It was also learnt   gathered President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, is expected to perform the ground-breaking commissioning of the refinery at Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos State.

The 650,000 barrels per day refinery is expected to boost the Federal Government’s effort to make Nigeria self-sufficient.

The Dangote Refinery complex located in the Lekki Free Zone (LFZ) area of Lagos, covers a land area of approximately 2,635 hectares, which is larger than the entire Victoria Island.

The refinery is the biggest in Africa and also the biggest single-train facility in the world.

A single-train refinery uses an integrated distillation unit or one Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) to refine crude oil into various petroleum products.

This is against the use of multiple distillation units by most big refineries.

Besides, multi-billion-dollar Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Company is expected to bring solutions to Nigeria’s perennial refining issues.

This could help the Federal Government’s efforts to make the country self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil to save the scarce foreign exchange used in the importation of petroleum products.

The refinery is said to have been completed with pre-inauguration tests currently ongoing.

The Dangote Refinery complex, located in the Lekki Free Zone area of Lagos State, covers a land area of approximately 2,635 hectares, which is larger than the size of Victoria Island in Lagos.

Its pipeline infrastructure is the largest anywhere in the world, with 1,100 kilometres to handle three billion Standard Cubic Feet per day (Scf/d) of gas due to the large capacity of the refinery.

Reports say that the refinery has a 435MW-capacity power plant that is able to meet the total power requirement of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
