Consumer Safety: Mercedes-Benz recalls 61,450 vehicles with likely electrical issue with potential fire (Full List)

Emmanuel Akosile | ConsumerConnect

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) is recalling 61,450 of the following vehicles:

Model year 2020-2021 GLE350s, GLE450s, GLS450s, GLS580s,

Model year 2021 AMG GLE53s, AMG GLE63s, Maybach GLS600s, AMG GLS63s, and

Model year 2020 GLE580s.

The automobile manufacturer said the air conditioner drain hoses in the affected vehicles may have been incorrectly installed, causing water to drain into the passenger compartment.

The company disclosed the water that intrudes into the foot wells may cause corrosion and/or short circuits to electrical components, increasing the risk of fire.

Besides, the emergency call (eCall) feature may be disabled and the doors may not unlock, increasing the risk of injury, agency report noted.

The engine also may not start or may enter a limp-home mode, increasing the risk of a crash, MBUSA stated.

In regard to what to do in addressing the defect, the company said dealers would inspect and reinstall the air conditioner drain hoses — as necessary — free of charge.

Notification letters to owners are expected to be mailed May 16, 2023.

Affected vehicle owners may contact MBUSA Customer Service on (800) 367-6372.[do_widget id=heateor_sss_sharing-2]
