The House of Representatives has indicated its readiness to investigate an alleged diversion of N20 billion by some staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

The Federal lawmakers, at a plenary held Thursday, April 6, 2023, set up an ad-hoc committee for the purpose of the probe, following the adoption of a motion by Hafiz Ibrahim Kawu (Kano State).

Kawu noted the NNPC staff were reported to have diverted over N20billion in the semblance of consultancy fees paid to its consultants.

The legislator noted that he regretted the staff of the national oil Company were purportedly diverting funds as the Federal Government was trying to fight corruption and harness resources for infrastructure development in the country.

It is an “unwholesome practice” that affects the fortunes of the country if not checked, said Kawu.
