Toyota recalls 3,533 Rav4, Rav4 Hybrid, Rav4 Prime vehicles over defective air bag

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling 3,533 model year 2022 Rav4s, Rav4 Hybrids, and Rav4 Primes.

The company said the front passenger seat might have been assembled with interference between internal parts that may cause the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor to incorrectly detect an occupant.

Toyota noted the incorrect detection of an occupant may result in improper air bag deployment in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

As regards what to do in addressing the fault, the automobile manufacturer announced the dealers would inspect and repair the front passenger seat — as necessary — free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 2, 2022.
