Following  much anticipation for the electoral umpire to announce the collated Governorship election results, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) early Monday, March 20, 2023, declared Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner with 762,134 votes.

ConsumerConnect reports Sanwo-Olu’s winning figure was followed by those of Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP), who scored 312, 329 and Mr. Abdul-Aziz Adeniran of the PDP scoring 62,449 respectively in the keenly contested election in the cosmopolitan state fondly called the ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Nigeria.

Earlier, the state’s election had generated intense interest among the major stakeholders in the electioneering in view of the fact that the Labour Party garnered more votes than the APC in the Saturday, February 25 Presidential and National Assembly (NASS) elections.

Thank you, Lagosian! I am humbled

In his acceptance speech shortly after INEC declared him the winner of the gubernatorial polls, Sanwo-Olu thanked all Lagosians for their support.

The incumbent governor, who has just been re-elected for the second term of four years said though there is no victor, no vanquished in the state election, he invited his opponents in the electoral contest to join him in advancing the frontiers of development of the Lagos State, otherwise referred to as the commercial capital of the West African country.

Sanwo-Olu as well assured the citizenry of his administration’s commitment to continued activation of its T.H.E.M.E.S development agenda for inclusive prosperity for the emergence of ‘A New Lagos’ for the good of all.

Likewise, the Lagos State Governor expressed his gratitude to the people of the state for voting for him the second time on the social media.

In a tweet via his verified Twitter account Monday morning, Sanwo-Olu also stated: “Thank you Lagosians!

“I am deeply humbled and grateful for the overwhelming support and trust of the good people of Lagos State.

“I am honored to be re-elected as your Governor and pledge to continue to work tirelessly to deliver a better Lagos for all.”

The governor said: “Thank you for believing in me.

“I have personally penned my thoughts in a letter to you.

“I hope you read it and truly feel my passion for Lagos and for you.”
