Mercedes-Benz recalls 26,116 G550, AMG G63 vehicles over defective wiring harness

*The automobile manufacturer says the wiring harness damage may cause a loss of anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control

Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) is recalling 26,116 model year 2019-2021 G550 and AMG G63 vehicles.

The company said the front axle wiring harness may chafe against an oil cooler and become damaged, which can cause a loss of Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

MBUSA disclosed the loss of either could increase the risk of a crash, ConsumerAffairs report said.

In regard to what to do to rectify the defect, the company stated the dealers would inspect and either install a protective sleeve or replace the front axle wiring harness — as necessary –free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 18, 2023.
