The Nigerian Senate has congratulated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Sen. Kashim Shettima, as President-elect and Vice President-elect on their victory at last Saturday’s Presidential election in the country.

ConsumerConnect reports that after a keenly contested election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) early Wednesday, March 1, 2023, announced Asiwaju Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The President-elect and former Governor of Lagos State had polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 6,984,520.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, during the plenary Wednesday, described Tinubu’s victory as historic.

Lawan urged all Federal lawmakers to be in attendance for the issuing of the Certificate of Return to the President-elect.

The event holds Wednesday by 3p.m. at the International Conference Centre, in Abuja, according to INEC.
