Data Security: Nigeria’s NDPB hosts National Privacy Week 2023

Nigeria will join the international community Saturday, January 28, 2023, to commemorate this year’s Global Data Privacy Day.

ConsumerConnect reports the Global Data Privacy Day is one set aside to create awareness of fundamental rights and freedoms relating to the privacy of digital consumers in the global data processing ecosystem.

Mr. Babatunde Bamigboye, Esq., Head of Legal Enforcement and Regulations of the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB), Tuesday, January 24 stated in line with the overarching global objective of awareness on data privacy, the Bureau would organise a National Privacy Week in the country’s digital space.

Bamigboye said the Privacy Week intensively focuses on awareness creation in the area of data subjects’ rights, capacity building on data governance, data breach remediation among others.

The Bureau also disclosed Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Honourable Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, would flag-off the National Privacy Week with a press conference on the Global Data Privacy Day.

Bamigboye further noted: “The National Privacy Week also coincides with the 1st Anniversary of the establishment of the Bureau.

“The NDPB under the leadership of Dr. Vincent Olatunji as its National Commission and CEO will set-up an Accelerated Data Breach Remediation unit to resolve petitions from data subjects within the National Privacy Week.”
