Despite the apprehension being expressed by cross-sections of Nigerians in respect of the Federal Government’s invitation to Chinese doctors to visit Nigeria amid the increasing cases of Coronavirus pandemic in Europe and the United States in recent weeks, a 15-man medical team and equipment from China arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, FCT, Wednesday, April 8.

ConsumerConnect gathered that the team and medical equipment arrived in the country in a chartered Air Peace aircraft afternoon Wednesday.

The Chinese medical team is expected to assist Nigeria in its efforts at managing the deadly COVID-19 pandemic fast upsetting the world economy at the moment.

Dr. Osagie Ehainre, Honourable Minister of Health, who was at the airport to receive the medical team, also addressed the journalists on the Chinese visitors’ mission to Nigeria.

It is also recalled that Chinese medical experts’ coming into the country at this moment had ignited some serious concern among the Nigerian populace.

However, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 Friday, April 3, in Abuja, had explained that the visiting medical team would complement the ongoing efforts to contain the pandemic.

Mr. Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, while explaining the role of the visiting Chinese experts, appealed to Nigerian medical professionals to welcome and accept their help as many other countries had.

The SGF and PTF Chairman stated: “I wish to clarify that all the countries of the world are seeking assistance and are receiving help in the fight against COVID-19.

“Even the United States is looking for help elsewhere.

“The support coming from China is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiated by CCECC, a company with a total volume of infrastructural contracts in Nigeria worth over N10 billion.”
