In its continued offensive against fuel racketeers and market exploiters across the West African country, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), also called ‘The Regulator’, has disclosed  the agency sealed off a total of 13 filling stations in Akwa Ibom State, South-South region of the country, for selling fuel for N300 per liter, in violation of the government-approved pump price.

ConsumerConnect gathered that most filling stations in Akwa Ibom State, South-South region of the country, sell fuel per liter between N305 and N320.

Mr. Joy Koro, Team Lead, Distribution Systems Storage and Retailing Infrastructure of NMDPRA,  stated this Friday l, January 6, 2023, during a monitoring and surveillance exercise in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

Koro, therefore, warned marketers to stop selling above the government-approved price, or face the consequences of shutting down their stations.

He stated: “We sealed off 13 filling stations for dispensing far above the government-approved pump price of N300 per litre.

“Marketers know the government-approved pump price; if we carry out surveillance and we see them selling at a regulated price, we will not seal the filling station.”

The NMDPRA Team leader further said: “I, therefore, warn marketers to stop selling the products above government approved price and revert to the approved price in the state.”

According to him, there are enough petroleum products in the state for marketers to lift to their stations.

He urged them not to create artificial scarcity in the country.
