In a move to save lives and property of both the drivers and passengers in the Northern state, the Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KSCPC) discloses it has confiscated over 1,200 substandard tricycle tyres in the metropolis.

Alhaji Abubakar Ali-Muhammad, Managing Director of the Council,  said this in a statement by Musbahu Yakasai, Spokesman of the regulatory agency, issued Thursday, December 22, 2022, in Kano.

Ali-Muhammad stated that the Council received confidential information about the tyre and immediately swung into investigation.

The KSCPC operatives uncovered the place where the substandard tyres were being sold, said

Managing Director.

He also noted: “Following an operation at a warehouse located in a Rice Mill Company at Kuyan Ta Inna, in Kumbotso Local Government Area (LGA), where the tyres were stored and sold to tricycle owners and riders at very lower price in the state, we raided the area.”

Ali-Muhammad, therefore, urged tricycle owners and riders to always ensure that they bought and used standard spare parts for their tricycle in order to save their lives and property of their passengers.

He further encouraged the people of Kano to be volunteers of KSCPC in order to achieve the consumer protection agency’s set objectives.

The KSCPC Chief restated his commitment to fighting expired, fake and substandard products in the state.

Ali-Muhammad as well commended Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje for giving him the opportunity to serve the Kano people.

Commenting on the agency’s discovery in the state, Alhaji Mansur Tanimu, Chairman of Amalgamated Tricycle Owners and Riders Association Kano, said that the association had been receiving reports and complaints from its members about the substandard tyres.

Tanimu applauded the Managing Director of the Council for inviting them to be part of the cleansing operation.
