In line with the Lagos State Government (LASG) integrated multimodal transportation system plan, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Wednesday, December 21, 2022, inaugurated the first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line (Marina to Mile 2), at the National Theatre Blue Line Station, Iganmu, Lagos.

ConsumerConnect reports Governor Sanwo-Olu was at the historic event with his cabinet members, including Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) had disclosed the commencement of passenger operations is slated for the first quarter (Q1) 2023.

The transport regulatory agency stated the Blue Line is one of the six rail lines and monorail prescribed for Lagos in the state’s Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP).

The Blue Line is a 27-kilometer rail system from Marina to Okokomaiko area of the cosmopolitan state and commercial nerve centre of Nigeria.

The construction project has been divided into phases for ease of implementation, and is expected to convey over 500,000 passengers when the entire line is completed for the benefit of Lagosians and Nigerians at large, according to report.
