Insecurity: NMA confirms kidnap of 2 doctors in Cross River

Against the backdrop of recent security issues in the axis, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has confirmed the kidnap of two of its members in Akampa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Dr. Felix Archibong, Chairman of Calabar Branch of NMA, who said this in a statement issued at the weekend, noted the incident happened few days after nine people were kidnapped in same axis in the South-South state in Nigeria.

Archibong stated that the development had created  fear in several people, especially as the axis is the only exit and entry route to Calabar, the Cross River State capital by land.

The NMA chairman also urged security agencies as well as the Cross River Government to do all they could to rescue the victims.

According to him, the kidnapping of the two medical doctors will have a negative impact in the healthcare delivery, knowing that their lives are at risk.

Speaking on the incident, Sule Balarabe, Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, explained that Police officers had been deployed to Akamkpa Forest to secure the release of the kidnap victims.
