Hyundai recalls 53,142 Santa Fe, Sonata, Santa Cruz, Elantra N, others over drive power failure

Hyundai Motor Company is recalling 53,142 model year 2021-2022 Santa Fes, Sonatas, Veloster Ns, and model year 2022 Santa Cruzs, Elantra Ns & Kona Ns.

The automobile manufacturer said a transmission issue in the affected vehicles may result in a complete loss of drive power

Hyundai noted the “fail-safe” limited-mobility drive mode may be impaired, if the transmission oil pump malfunctions, which can result in a complete loss of drive power.

Loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash, stated the company

In respect of what to do in addressing the error, the company said that dealers would inspect and replace the transmission as necessary and update the transmission control unit software.

All repairs will be performed free of charge, it said.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 5, 2022.

Hyundai’s number for this recall is 236.
