National Grid collapses, as blackout hits Abuja, Lagos, others

*Nigeria’s electricity Distribution Companies have apologised to power consumers over the latest collapse of the national grid, assuring Nigerians the situation will return to normalcy, once the grid is restored

For the umpteenth time in the course of this year, major Nigerian cities including Lagos, the commercial nerve centre, and Abuja, FCT, are currently experiencing blackout as the National Grid has collapsed.

ConsumerConnect learnt that following the development, several electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have informed their consumers of the situation in various notices.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) reported the national grid collapsed at 10:50a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022.

The DisCo said, “This has affected the Transmission Stations within our network and resulted in the loss of power supply to our customers.”

Likewise, Eko Electricity Distribution Company also, stated in a notice to its clients, “We regret to inform you of a system collapse on the National Grid at precisely 10:52 a.m.

“Presently, all our injection substations are out of supply.”

The power also said, “We are working with our TCN partners to restore supply as soon as possible.

“We apologise for the inconvenience.”

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) released a similar statement, but indicated that the grid collapsed in Abuja at 10:55a.m.

In the same vein, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company announced that the national grid collapsed at 10:51a.m, causing disruption to power supply in the coverage area, including Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo.

Similarly, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc said the system collapse actually caused outage in the entire South-East states of Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi.

Kaduna Electric as well confirmed the collapse of the grid Monday.

The company disclosed that the development truncated power supply to consumers in its franchise states.

Apologies to consumers

The DisCos have all apologised to their clients and electricity consumers over the development.

They assured them that power situation would return to normalcy as soon as the national electricity grid is restored.
