In regard to their purported drug trafficking case, the Federal High Court, in Abuja, FCT, has fixed October 19, 20 and 21, 2022, as the trial dates for the embattled Abba Kyari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and four other suspects.

Justice Emeka Nwite fixed the trial dates in his ruling  Tuesday, August 30, in Abuja, report said.

The Justice also declined to grant bail to suspended DCP Kyari, and four others.

It is recalled the suspects are being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on allegations bordering on a transnational cocaine deal.

The anti-narcotics regulatory agency later arraigned Kyari as well as four suspended Police officers.

The officers include ACP Sunday Ubia, ASP James, Inspector Simon Agirigba and Inspector John Nuhu as 2nd to 5th defendants respectively.

No sufficient evidence to grant fresh bail application: Justice Nwite

While ruling on the bail application Tuesday, Justice Nwite said the applicants failed to present sufficient materials and evidence to warrant the granting of the fresh application.

Nwite, therefore, reaffirmed his earlier ruling of March 28 this year, ordering an accelerated hearing of the court case

Kyari and his other co-applicants did not show exceptional circumstances to warrant them being granted bail, said the Justice.

Report also indicates that Tuesday’s is the second time the court would reject Kyari and others’ bail applications, having earlier turned down a similar request in April this year.

The five drug trafficking suspects are to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre, in Abuja, pending the commencement of their trial October 19, 2022.
