Ford recalls 1,000 Explorer, Lincoln Aviator vehicles over improperly heat-treated engine rails

Ford Motor Company is recalling 1,000 model year 2022 Explorers and Lincoln Aviators.

The automobile manufacturer said the affected vehicles engine rails may have been improperly heat-treated.

The company explains the improperly heat-treated engine rails may reduce the vehicle’s structural protection in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Besides, an engine rail may detach and contact the road while the vehicle is moving, increasing the risk of a crash, Ford Motor Company stated.

In connection with what to do in rectifying the error, Ford noted the dealers would perform an engine rail strength test and replace the rails — as necessary — free of charge.

It said, if the engine rails require replacement, owners will have the option of a vehicle replacement or buyback.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 1, 2022.

Affected vehicle owners may contact Ford Customer Service on (866) 436-7332.

Ford’s number for this recall is 22C13.
