2023: Tinubu faces screening, explains why he is most qualified for Nigeria’s Presidency

As the registered political parties’ screening exercises intensify across the West African country, Asiwaju (Sen.) Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a frontline presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has appeared before the party’s Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led seven-man Presidential Screening Committee in Abuja, FCT.

ConsumerConnect reports Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Director-General of Tinubu Campaign Organisation, who disclosed this development in a statement issued Monday, May 30, 2022, said the former two-term Governor of Lagos State and Senator  of the Federal Republic, answered questions bordering on his upbringing, educational and professional background at the screening session.

The Director-General of his campaign group stated that Asiwaju Tinubu, who is also one of the leaders of the APC, informed the screening panel why he is qualified to represent the party as the 2023 APC presidential candidate.

Onanuga also said: “He cited his success as Governor of Lagos State, his raising the internal revenue generation of the state from a paltry N600 million monthly, which has now grown to N51billion today.

“He also cited his invitation to Enron to begin the first state-backed power generation in Nigeria and how Nigeria will need to take the power transmission lines as a highway.

“Tinubu in his answers demonstrated vast knowledge in economic management and a perfect understanding of Nigeria’s political economy.”

The statement as well noted that the screening committee expressed satisfaction with Tinubu’s knowledge of the economy and socio-political issues that were currently affecting the country.

Besides Tinubu, there were 11 other presidential aspirants the party’s Presidential Screening Committee screened Monday, including Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, immediate former Minister for Transportation; and Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru.

Others are Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, Pastor Tunde Bakare, General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church; erstwhile Minister of State, Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajuiba; and the only female presidential aspirant, Mrs. Uju Ken-Ohanenye.

Sen. Ajayi Boroffice, Pastor Felix Nicholas, former President of the Senate Ken Nnamani, former Governor of Ogun, Sen. Ibikunle Amosu, and former governor of Zamfara, Sen. Sani Ahmed, have also been screened by the Committee.

Eralier before the exercise commenced Monday, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, APC National Chairman, was said to have inaugurated the members of the screening panel behind closed doors at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Tinubu, who arrived the venue at 5:50 p.m., was accompanied by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and some chieftains of the Tinubu Support Groups, led by Hon. James Faleke and Babachir Lawal, ex-Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal.

Aspirants left to be screened are Vice-President (Prof.) Osinbajo, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, former House of Representatives Speaker Oladimeji Bankole; Ekiti State Governor (Dr.) Kayode Fayemi; Sen. Godswill Akpabio, former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs.

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Tein Jack-Rich; former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu; Cross River State Governor (Prof.) Ben Ayade; and Ikobasi Mokelu, ex-Minister for Information have also been shcduled for screening.
